Read Sarah's Story ^{(In Memoriam)}

Sarah was one of twenty chicks rescued from a factory farm where she would have been slaughtered at 7 weeks old. She was brought to The Gentle Barn Tennessee at just 4 weeks old to live a full life and also tell the story about how much broiler chicks suffer in the industry. They are genetically modified to grow very big, very quickly, and even while they are still peeping for their moms and have innocent baby blue eyes, they are sent to slaughter as babies. They are raised in the dark on their own feces, and within weeks go blind and are unable to breathe or walk. Even though she was doing well with her mobility, her abnormal size was an impossible burden on her heart. at only ten months old, Sarah passed away in her sleep after enjoying a wonderful day playing with her human friend’s, exploring the barnyard, and snuggling with her siblings. Sarah was able to live out her life knowing the warmth of a sunny day, the breath of fresh air, and the soft grass under her feet. We are thankful to have know her and will never stop telling her story!
