Read Chance's Story (In Memoriam)
Chance was rescued from a backyard butcher along with many other animals. She had no food, water, or shelter there, and saw many unspeakable things happen to animals right in front of her. When Chance arrived at The Gentle Barn she was sick, riddled with parasites, and terrified of humans. It took a long time to heal her body, and even longer to heal her heart. Eventually Chance relaxed into the new life we had for her, eating fresh hay, clean water, and living in comfort in our pasture and inside the barn with her friends. During the nine years, we have had her, Chance never let us pet or brush her, still holding on to the trauma from her past. When her body failed and she needed help transitioning, we walked her home with kindness and compassion, hoping that with her last breath she saw that there are good people and this world can be kind. We hope she will take that love with her, while we will always remember her!
