Read Sunshine's Story (In Memoriam)
Sunshine was part of a big cruelty case we investigated. Over the course of four years, we took in over a hundred animals confiscated by animal control, and Sunshine was one of them. Like the others, Sunshine came into The Gentle Barn California extremely ill and it took months for her to recover, just in time to have a baby we named Sweetheart. It took years for Sunshine to trust us, take treats from our hands, and enjoy being pat, but she finally became one of the warmest, sweetest, and most loving sheep we have ever had. She ate hay with gusto, gobbled up grain, came running for bedtime cookies, and spent hours each day bonding with her daughter. She was beautiful with feminine features and yet had a deep masculine baaaa at mealtimes that always made us smile. We don't know exactly how old she was, but most sheep live until about eight years old, and Sunshine enjoyed hers until she was at least fifteen. She passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly and left her family missing her. Unlike most farm animals, Sunshine got to spend her entire life with her daughter and friends and will live on in our hearts forever.
