Read Georgia's Story (In Memoriam)
Georgia and her 3 sisters were rescued when they were too old to lay eggs, and their family no longer wanted them. At The Gentle Barn, we were thrilled to have them, not for their eggs, but for their sparkling personalities, lively conversations, and the joy they filled our barnyard with every day. The first couple of years that Georgia spent at The Gentle Barn, she was very active and busy. She loved exploring the yard, climbing on top of hay bales, dust bathing in the sun with her friends, and was typically too busy to want any pets or cuddles. About two years ago, she decided to become our resident cuddle chicken in her older age. She would walk right up to anyone and everyone to be pet, held, and snuggled. Georgia was and will always be an excellent ambassador for chickens. She showed countless guests how loving, smart, and gentle chickens are. She let hundreds of children cradle her in their arms and learn the magic of chickens. Georgie passed away at the age of nine from a mass in her reproductive tract. We will miss her dearly and continue to tell her story in our barnyard for many years to come.
