Read Betty Morgan's Story (In Memoriam)
Betty Morgan was purchased from a turkey farm by an eight year old girl. When her parents wouldn’t allow her to keep Betty as a pet she begged one of our volunteers to save her, our volunteer gave her to us to be a forever member of our family.
Unfortunately Betty's body was designed to fail her from the beginning. She was a domestic turkey who was bred to get very large, very fast, so she could be eaten at 12 weeks old. The result of this modification is usually an animal who can not walk from the weight of their body and need us to help them transition or ongoing heart problems throughout their life. Betty's body grew too big when she was allowed to live out her life with us but we did everything we could to keep her happy and comfortable.
Betty had an incredibly fiery personality and we were so grateful to have had the opportunity to know and love her.
